The next national holiday is almost here!

On Feb. 2 the nation will celebrate a holiday. Yes, it is Groundhog's Day but that is not it.
It is my birthday! And just ask my husband, my daughter or any of my closest friends, I do truly believe it is a national holiday. I love birthdays. Everyone's birthday! But esp. my birthday. (My daughter feels the same about hers. Her husband thinks it is genetic).
And I don't celebrate my birthday, quietly, alone. NOPE! I invite friends, family and everyone to celebrate with me. I am a recruiter in a not for profit blood bank. Year before last I called all my donors. I told them that on my birthday, since I was turning 46, I wanted 46 blood donors to save 46 lives (actually more than that since 1 unit of blood can potentially help save 3 lives). And they turned out. We had 37 donors that day. Not too bad considering I dreamed up the idea 2 days before.
Last year, I held a party at a spa. Invited 5 friends and family to come join me for pedicures and manicures, on my dime. Then we let the "boys" (husbands, sons, grandsons) join us for lunch at my fav Italian place, Luiggi's. The picture is of my daughter and I at the spa on my birthday. Notice my "crown".
My husband treats me like royalty on my birthday. And I love it!
Ok, now on to this birthday. This year I want to celebrate it WITH YOU!
So here is the deal: Since I must share my birthday with Groundhog's Day, then we will have fun with it. Leave me a msg. on this post and tell me whether you think the groundhog will see his shadow and run back into his hole, projecting another 6 weeks of winter or will he not see his shadow and stay and play, projecting spring is around the corner.
I will randomly draw a name on my birthday, Feb. 2 at 10:00 am CST from all who participate. The winner will receive 10 skeins of Sampler Threads, their choice of colors.

Wow, you sure do like birthday :) I think the groundhog is going to see his shadow and retreat back in his hole :(

I must agree Phil always sees his shadow the last few years. We are not about to have an early spring around here. LOL. Sometimes I wonder if Phil gets aggrivated getting pulled out of his warm house for the amusement of us people. Ya gotta wonder.

Donna,
Being the warm-weather girl that I am (and my Bday being 19 days after yours), I'm hoping Phil says that Spring is around the corner! I'm ready for the warmer temps and sunshine! Kasey and I want to sit out in the yard and soak in the warmth!

Hugs,
Beth

I think Phil will see his shadow and hide for 6 more weeks of Winter.

I think he isn't going to see his shadow and he is going to want to stay out and play and party. Although in this part of PA, we haven't seen a TON of snow, but I am SOOOOO ready for spring!!!!

I hope the groundhog sees his shadow and we have more winter. Although we has snow one day in TX it is now SPRING again the last two days have been in the 70's..cooler temps are supposed to be on the way. We need cooler winter so the summer won't be hot as hades here.

I would love to celebrate your birthday with you, please enter me into the drawing!

Thank you.

Punxsutawney Phil will definitely see his shadow. He does every year because when they pull him out of his hole its still dark and they have all these lights shining on him so of course he will see his shadow. I live about 2 hours away from Punxsutawney where the original groundhog is from. I would love to see spring though as we have already had 56 inches of snow so far this year and its been very very cold and we have had lots of freezing rain. Glad to know you share a birthday with someone famous - Punxsutawney Phil - his brother lives in my yard and makes many holes which makes me very upset!!! Also glad to see you love to celebrate - Happy Birthday!!!!

Merry early Birthday Donna!! What a great idea you have about your birthday. I really love the one about the blood donations.

This year, I think that Phil will see his shadow and run and hide. I know I will probably be hiding inside because I don't think warm weather will ever come back. LOL

I believe in hope, so just as we all have new hope in our new government, I believe that Mr Goundhog will not see his shadow and we will have an early glorious springtime!
PS Have the best birthday ever! And I love your spirit! It's contagous.

My sister was born a day before you and I have a cousin that was born the next day on the 2nd. So my sister and cousin shared the same nursery.
I love you ideas, especially giving blood. If everyone had your spirit and excitement for birthdays, our whole lives will be a party. lol.
I predict Phil will NOT see his shadow and we will have an early spring.

I'm so afraid he's going to see his shadow and we'll have more winter. I'm so ready for warmer weather but it's not going to happen for a while yet.

Love the way you celebrate your birthday. Like you, I really love to celebrate the day we're born.

Being from Canada, I would have to say that there will definitely be six more weeks of winter. Have a great birthday in spite of that!

Hi Donna! Thank you so much for visiting my blog. Please come again. Yes ma'am, grandbabies are the BEST! It looks like we are sorta neighbors, and your daughter is VERY close to where I live. Maybe someday when you visit her we could meet up. That would be cool beans!

Happy Birthday early, and my guess is that Mr. Groundhoggie will see his shadow and we have more winter ahead of us.

I LOVE your idea of the way you celebrate your birthday, especially the one with the blood bank. Well, okay, the pedicure one was way cool, too! Too bad I don't live closer. :)

Come back and visit again and it's so nice to meet you!

Hugs,
Carolyn :)

I don't think my birthday is a national holiday...I KNOW it is! I don't stitch so the sampler threads need to go to someone else. I just want some generic embroidery floss and felt for some projects LOL. You've got 31 comments already! Oh and I think he will see his shadow.

I think you have the right idea for celebrating your B'day. Me, I usually hide until it's over. I tell the family. Just send presents. LOL LOL
I'm hoping Phil sees his shadow but you never know. :) I would love to be included in your drawing.

I definitely think Phil will see his shadow and go back to sleep and we will have six more weeks of winter. Just what the Midwest, Northwest and Northeast need more ice and snow! So. . . Have a Happy, Happy Birthday you deserve it.

Love your blog, glad I found it. I think "Phil" will not see his shadow, at least I am hoping he does not. They really need an early Spring on the East Coast.
